The Inter American Geodetic Survey (IAGS) was one of those little known U.S. Army (and later U.S. Department of Defense) programs established to map the nations of Latin America from the Mexican Border to the tip of South America. An area of more than ten million square miles, including vast tracks of, arguably, some of the most inhospitable terrain on earth.
The author gives you a first hand account of what it was like to experience the extremes of climate and topography as well as a menagerie of political situations.
